Default 2015 Mitsubishi ASX LED DRL's

    Hi All

I have (well the Mrs does) a 2014 Mitsi ASX. It's the last model that was released before the 2015 was released with LED DRL's as standard. They wrap around the fog light

I've managed to get hold of an OEM set to wire in to our car.

I've tried one side today to see if they work by running power to battery and one to earth. Also checked reverse polarity with nothing....

What am I doing wrong?? Being that they are LED I am assuming I need some sort of regulator maybe?

    Thanks

    Rod

    Bit of an update

Connected up with the car running this time. LEDs now come on but are very faint and flicker

In order for them to work as DRL'S you are going to need a kit or install some sort of relay set up...

Well I don't have the factory control module and that won't connect to our car anyway as there isn't provisions there to plug it in. I did get one control module for the left hand side (got that from a wreck) but yeah no good to me. I'm not sure what sort of relay I need to get in order to get them working as it seems more power is required than just 12v to run these

I wanted to wire them up to ignition so they come on when the car is on and turn off when car is off. They don't need to dim when the lights are on

What sort of wiring are on the DRLs? If it is just the standard +ve and -ve then you can do your own controller thing. Just need two relays, add-a-circuit fuse taps and wire up as follows:

    1. Use one of the fuse taps to replace one of the parker fuses (slot the parker fuse in the bottom slot and a new fuse in the top slot of the fuse tap).
    2. Connect the lead of the fuse tap to pin 86 of a relay (call this the control relay).
    3. Ground pin 85 of the control relay.
    4. Use another fuse tap to replace a fuse that reads +12V when engine is on. Again slot the original fuse into the bottom slot and a new fuse into the top slot.
    5. Connect the lead of the fuse tap to pin 86 of a relay (call this the switch relay).
    6. Ground pin 85 of the switch relay.
    7. Using an inline fuse, connect pin 30 of the switch relay to battery +12V.
    8. Connect pin 87 of the switch relay to pin 30 of the control relay.
    9. Connect pin 87a of the control relay to the +ve of the two DRLs.
    10. Ground the two -ve of the DRLs.

This way, the DRLs will come on with ignition and off when ignition is off. While on, it will also turn off when parkers are on and on when the parkers are off. To add a few seconds of delay so that the DRLs don't flicker while the engine starts, you can add a delay timer between the ignition fuse tap and pin 86 of the switch relay to delay sending power to the relay for a few seconds. I have a spare one you can have for $20. Bought it for $30 for a project but never used.

Pretty sure that you actually need to use two different types of relays for this set up. A no/nc and a normal type of relay.

Well there is only pos and neg coming out of the DRL. The RHS I got from a wreck. They sent the DRL as well as the fog lamp and some sort of control box. I suspect you are right Michael but I have no idea what parts I need to buy to get them working

Running them straight off the battery isn't powering them enough to work properly so I don't know WTF to do. They are only LEDs so I don't know why they wont work

I will post up some pics of the DRL later today
